Abstract

This study aims to address the low learning outcomes of students in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) on the topics of Prayer and Remembrance (Salat and Zikir) and to increase the learning activity of seventh-grade students at SMP PUI Kawalu, Tasikmalaya City, through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The study is based on the initial condition in which learning still used conventional methods, resulting in an average student score of only 51.33 with a very low classical completeness level. This research uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles, with each cycle comprising four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 32 seventh-grade students of SMP PUI Kawalu. The data collection techniques used included tests (to measure cognitive learning outcomes at the end of each cycle) and observations (to measure the activity and engagement of teachers and students during the learning process). The research results showed a significant increase that met the success indicators. In Cycle I, the average score rose to 66.56, but the classical completeness only reached 37.5%. After corrective actions were taken (focusing on guidance and group management) in Cycle II, the class average score drastically increased to 94.00, and the classical learning completeness reached 96.66%. The improvement in the process was also reflected in the student participation score reaching 96.67%. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model is highly effective in increasing student participation and learning outcomes in the subject of Prayer and Zikr.
