Dampak Psikologis Pelanggaran Norma Agama Melalui Perzinahan: Kajian Teori Psikologi, Psikologi Agama, dan Perspektif Islam

Abstract

Adultery (zina) refers to sexual behavior outside the bounds of legitimate marriage and constitutes a major transgression in Islamic religious norms. Despite widespread moral and legal discussion, its psychological consequences remain insufficiently examined in a systematic and integrative manner, particularly within the context of Muslim-majority societies such as Indonesia. This article presents a theory-driven narrative literature review synthesizing 15 sources, comprising 10 international peer-reviewed journals and 5 Indonesian academic publications, to examine the psychological impact of adultery across multiple established psychological frameworks. Key findings indicate that: (1) involvement in adultery is consistently associated with psychological distress symptoms comparable to post-traumatic stress responses in victims; (2) guilt and shame emerge as primary moral emotional responses in perpetrators, with guilt serving an adaptive function toward behavioral correction while excessive shame tends toward maladaptive outcomes; (3) religiosity functions as the most robust protective factor against premarital sexual behavior, operating through attitude formation, subjective norms, and self-control reinforcement; and (4) in the Indonesian Muslim context, intense social stigma significantly amplifies negative psychological outcomes, disproportionately affecting women. These findings offer implications for the development of culturally-grounded, religion-based psychological interventions addressing both prevention and post-transgression recovery.
