Plagiarism Screening and AI Policy

Plagiarism Screening
Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are entirely original, and that any work or words of others are appropriately cited or quoted. AL-TIJARY uses Google Scholar and Turnitin checking before deciding whether a manuscript is accepted. The similarity index must not exceed 25%. Manuscripts that exceed this limit are returned to the authors or rejected.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

1. Scope and principles
AL-TIJARY recognizes the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and their potential to support academic work. This policy applies to manuscript writing (authors), editorial handling and editing (the Editorial Team), and peer review (reviewers). The use of AI must adhere to academic integrity, originality, confidentiality, transparency, and ethical publishing. This policy is guided by the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

2. Authors

  • Authors may use AI-assisted tools to support language editing, grammar correction, translation, improvement of readability, literature organization, and other technical aspects of writing.
  • AI tools must not replace the authors’ intellectual contribution, critical thinking, scientific analysis, or interpretation of findings, and must not be used to replace scholarly judgement.
  • Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools that have materially contributed to the manuscript, stating the tool used and its purpose, in the Comments for the Editor field and in the Author Declaration Form. Routine spelling and grammar correction does not require detailed disclosure.
  • Using AI to fabricate data, generate fictitious references, manipulate findings, or commit plagiarism or other misconduct is strictly prohibited.
  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors, because they cannot take responsibility for scholarly work.

3. Editorial Team (Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editors, and Editors)

  • Editors must not enter or upload submitted manuscripts, or any part of them, into AI applications, in order to protect confidentiality.
  • AI must not be used to replace scholarly assessment or editorial decisions. Decisions to accept, revise, or reject a manuscript are made by human editors only.
  • Editors may use AI-assisted tools only for administrative and technical support that does not involve confidential manuscript content (for example, correspondence drafting or formatting). Similarity and AI-detection tools are screening aids only and are not the sole basis for a decision.
  • Editors must disclose any material use of AI in editorial work to the Editor-in-Chief, who keeps a record of such use.

4. Reviewers (peer review)

  • Reviewers must not use AI to analyze, assess, or draft review comments.
  • Reviewers must not enter or upload the manuscript, or any part of it (including the abstract, data, or figures), into any AI application.
  • Reviewers who suspect inappropriate AI use in a manuscript must report it to the editor and must not investigate it with AI tools.
  • A reviewer who violates this rule may be removed from the reviewer pool, and the review may be disregarded.

5. Responsibility
The use of AI by authors or editors does not remove their individual responsibility for the originality, confidentiality, and integrity of the article, and for the editorial decisions taken. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, validity, and integrity of the manuscript, including any content produced with AI assistance.

6. Enforcement
AL-TIJARY may request clarification about AI use and may take appropriate action, including rejection before or after review, or correction or retraction of a published article under the Correction and Retraction Policy, if AI use violates publication ethics.
