Publication Ethics
Publication Ethics
Qonun: Jurnal Hukum Islam dan Perundang-Undangan is a publication of the Faculty of Sharia, State Islamic University of Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda, Indonesia. It is a peer-reviewed publication with open access in the domains of communication and socio religious studies. The publication of an article in Qonun is vital to the creation of a respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. The scientific method is supported and embodied by publications with peer reviews. It is essential that all parties engaged in the publication process, including the author, journal editors, peer reviewers, and publisher, agree on standards of anticipated ethical behavior.
AUTHORS
Authors must submit the original, unpublished work and refrain from submitting the same article to other journals until the publisher provides a response evaluating the manuscript's viability. Authors should provide accurate and accountable research data. Authors must properly cite their sources, taking into account the manuscript's substance in the form of either printed publications or personal interviews.
Originality and Plagiarism
The authors should ensure that their works are wholly unique, and if they have used the work and/or words of others, that they have cited or quoted them appropriately.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
In general, an author should not submit submissions containing virtually identical findings to many journals or primary publications. Submitting the same paper to multiple journals simultaneously is unethical and improper publishing activity.
Authorship of the Paper
Authorship should be restricted to those who have contributed significantly to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. Co-authorship should be awarded to everyone who has made a meaningful contribution. When others have contributed to particular substantive components of a research endeavor, they should be recognized or cited as contributors. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all suitable co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the manuscript, and that all co-authors have viewed and approved the final version of the paper and consent to its submission for publication.
Data Access and Retention
Authors may be required to give the raw data associated with a manuscript for editorial review and should be prepared to preserve such data for a reasonable period of time following publication.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
All authors are required to state in their submission any financial or other significant conflicts of interest that could be perceived as having influenced the results or interpretation of their manuscript. Disclosing all sources of financial assistance for the project is required.
Fundamental errors in published works
When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper. If the editor or the publisher learns from a third party that a published work contains a significant error, it is the obligation of the author to promptly retract or correct the paper or provide evidence to the editor of the correctness of the original paper.
EDITORS
The QONUN journal editor is responsible for determining which articles will be published. Validation of the work in question and its significance to researchers and readers must always be the determining factor in such judgments. The editors may be influenced by the journal's editorial board's policies and be bound by the applicable legal requirements for libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The editors may consult with additional editors or reviewers before reaching a conclusion.
Fair Play
A paper is always evaluated for its intellectual content, regardless of the authors' color, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic background, citizenship, or political ideology.
Confidentiality
The editors and any editorial staff are prohibited from disclosing any information regarding a submitted manuscript to anybody other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Without the author's explicit written permission, editors may not use unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research.
REVIEWERS
Editorial Decisions Contribution
Peer review aids the editor in making editorial judgments and, through editorial contacts with the author, can aid the author in enhancing the quality of a paper.
Promptness
If a referee feels unqualified to evaluate the research described in a manuscript or believes that a prompt evaluation is impossible, he or she must notify the editors and withdraw from the review process.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts submitted for evaluation must be treated as confidential materials. Except as permitted by the editor, they must not be displayed to or discussed with others.
Objectiveness Standards
Reviews should be objectively conducted. It is inappropriate to criticize the author personally. The reviewers should articulate their positions with clarity and provide supporting rationale.
Sources are acknowledged
Reviewers must identify the source of references that were not cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously reported should be backed by a citation. A reviewer should also bring to the editor's attention any major overlap or similarity between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they are aware.
Transparency and Conflict of Interest
Information or concepts received through peer review must be kept confidential and not exploited for personal gain. Reviewers should not evaluate articles in which they have conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors or institutions associated with the studies.
