Focus and Scope

SYAMIL: Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam (Journal of Islamic Education) is the leading journal in Islamic educational institutions concerning Islamic education.

The journal is pursues the academic exploration on Islamic education discourses in madrasah (Islamic schools), pesantren (Islamic boarding school), and Islamic education in university. The journal promotes empirical research and theory relevant to Islamic affiliated educational institutions.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to this journal must follow the focus and scope, and author guidelines of this journal. The submitted manuscripts must address scientific merit or novelty appropriate to the focus and scope. All manuscripts must be free from plagiarism contents. All authors are suggested to use plagiarism detection software to do the similarity checking. Editors check the plagiarism detection of articles in this journal by using Turnitin software. The research article submitted to this journal will be peer-reviewed by at least 2 (two) or more expert reviewers. The reviewers give scientific valuable comments improving the contents of the manuscript. The final decision of article acceptance will be made by Editors according to reviewers' comments. Publication of accepted articles including the sequence of published articles will be made by Editor in Chief by considering a sequence of accepted dates and geographical distribution of authors as well as a thematic issue.

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Publication Ethics

Ethical Guideline for Journal Publication

The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed SYAMIL JOURNAL is an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer, the publisher, and the society.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHOR

Submissions:

  • The submitted manuscript is an original work and has never been published or is in the process of publication in other journals.
  • It can be conceptual studies, an excerpt of research, including empirical research and theory relevant to Islamic affiliated educational institutions. The topics of the journal cover the micro, meso, and macro levels of Islamic education.
  • It is written in English/Arabic in accordance with the standard of scientific papers;
  • The length of the manuscript is between 6000 to 10000 words; A4 size paper with double spacing, using Garamond Style font and font size 13;
  • The manuscript is submitted through the website of Syamil Journal of Islamic Education Thought by first logging into the system; or by sending it as an e-mail attachment in the Microsoft word format which is addressed to the editorial board at journal.syamil@gmail.com.

Papers:

  •   On the boundary of Islamic education, 
  •   Non-plagiarism, 
  •   Never and not being published in other journals, 
  •   Prioritized on based empirical research, 
  •   Written in English/Arabic (using Microsoft Word, Garamond 13, 1 space, A-4) or Arabic (Microsoft World, Traditional Arabic 14, 1 space),

Style:

  • Submitted manuscript must include title, author name, abstract in English, and keywords;
  • The title of the article is written not more than 15 words.
  • Abstract is written briefly, concisely and clearly, between 150-200 words that reflect: the problem (Issue), theory or supposed condition (Rule), argument or analysis (Argument), and Conclusion;
  • Keywords can be words or phrases, a maximum of 3-5;
  • The contents of papers for empirical research consist of Introduction, Literature Review, Research Method, Findings and Discussion, Conclusion, and Bibliography.

  • Introduction consisting of background, literature review (to arrange the state of the art), purpose and problem formulation,  written in one chapter without subtitle.

  • Literature Review Authors should provide very short literature survey in order to record the existing solutions/method, to show which is the best of previous researches, to show the main limitation of the previous researches, to show what do you hope to achieve (to solve the limitation), and to show the scientific merit or novelties of the paper.
  • Method consists of a description of research type, data collection, data source, data type, and data analysis. It is written in a paragraph form.

  • Result and Discussion inform a number of important data (original) field which obtained from the questionnaires, surveys, documents, interviews, observations and other data collection techniques. It can be completed with table or graphics to clarify the result.

  • Conclusion:  write succinctly and clearly the result of research then describe the logical consequence in developing science and praxis of Islamic education. Conclusion is not indented and uses bolded Garamond 13.

  • Bibliography consists of reference and citations refer to the Chicago Manual of Style 17th (full note) edition by using manager reference (Mendeley/Zotero).

 

Publication Decisions

The editor of the SYAMIL JOURNAL is responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. The validation of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers must always drive such decisions. The editors may be guided by the policies of the journal’s editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The editors may confer with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.

Fair Play

An editor at any time evaluates manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality

The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor’s own research without the express written consent of the author.

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper.

Promptness

Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.

Confidentiality

Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Acknowledgment of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors of reports of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Originality and Plagiarism

The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others that this has been appropriately cited or quoted.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

Acknowledgment of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.

Authorship of the Paper

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Where others have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.

Fundamental errors in published works

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

SYAMIL: Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam (Journal of Islamic Education) Is A double-blind peer-reviewed international journal that is published by the Post Graduate Program of UINSI Samarinda, Indonesia. SYAMIL publishes articles on Islamic Education in Southeast Asia from micro, meso, and macro perspectives, covering both literary and empirical studies. The journal endeavors to provide forums for academicians and researchers who are interested in the discussion of current and future issues on Islamic education. The journal emphasizes aspects related to Islamic education in the Southeast Asian context, with special reference to philosophical and critical studies; leadership and organization; pedagogy; history, and sociology of education. The journal encourages papers from a range of conceptual, theoretical, and/or methodological positions. The journal also welcomes research that brings together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners. The journal is committed to the publication of original research on Islam as culture and civilization. SYAMIL is published twice a year.

To avoid Plagiarism, every submitted manuscript will be screened by  Turnitin  and Premium Grammarly®

SYAMIL: Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam (Journal of Islamic Education) uses Turnitin to check similarity before deciding whether an article is accepted or not.

The articles submitted to SYAMIL: Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam (Journal of Islamic Education) translated in English SYAMIL Journal will be filtered using Turnitin, which must be below 20% of similarities.

Plagiarism includes:

  1. Word for word plagiarism – borrowing another author’s language word-for-word but not putting the language in quotation marks nor citing it correctly.

  2. Source plagiarism – using the idea of others without giving enough recognition or mentioning the source explicitly.

  3. Plagiarism of authorship – presenting another author's work as one’s own.

  4. Self-plagiarism - authors publishing one article in more than one journal by recycling papers. The important thing in self-plagiarism is that when citing one's own work, the new article produced must have significant changes. This means that the article is a small part of the new articles produced. So readers will get new things, which the author pours over new articles from old articles.

Publication Frequency

Journal SYAMIL Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam (Journal of Islamic Education) is published twice a year (June and December). Each issue number (issue) amounts to a minimum of five (5) titles.

SYAMIL Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam (Journal of Islamic Education) is the leading journal in Islamic educational institutions concerning Islamic education. The journal is pursues the academic exploration on Islamic education discourses in madrasah (Islamic schools), pesantren (Islamic boarding school), and Islamic education in university. The journal promotes empirical research and theory relevant to Islamic affiliated educational institutions.

The journal is published twice a year in June and December. It was firstly published in 2014 (printed edition). Since Vol. 3, Issue 2 (December 2015), it has migrated gradually to an electronic journal system (Open Access). It is now a fully online journal, and since Vol. 8, No. 2 (December 2019) it only accepts manuscript submissions written in English or Arabic.

SYAMIL Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam (Journal of Islamic Education) has been accredited by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of Indonesia since 25 September 2023 based on the Decree Number 152/E/KPT/2023 (valid for five years).

Withdrawal of Manuscript

The author is not allowed to withdraw submitted or published manuscripts (unless there are compelling reasons), because the withdrawal is a waste of valuable resources that editors and reviewers spent a great deal of time processing submitted manuscripts and works invested by the publisher.

If the author still requests withdrawal of his or her manuscript, the author will be asked to submit an "Article Withdrawal Form" signed by all authors (or the corresponding author of the manuscript) stating the reasons for manuscript withdrawal. Authors must not assume that their manuscript has been withdrawn until they have received appropriate notification to this effect from the editorial office. Please contact SYAMIL.

However, it is unethical to withdraw a submitted or published manuscript from one journal if it is accepted by another journal.

Retraction

The papers published in the SYAMIL Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam (Journal of Islamic Education) will be consider to retract in the publication if :

  1. They have clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g. data fabri-cation) or honest error (e.g. miscalculation or experimental error)
  2. the findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper crossreferencing, permission orjustification (i.e. cases of redundant publication)
  3. it constitutes plagiarism
  4. it reports unethical research
