Abstract

This study aims to investigate the implementation of multicultural Islamic religious education in the family for primary school aged-children in the multicultural community in Putrajaya, Selaawi, Garut. This covers about: the purposes of multicultural Islamic religious education desired by parents in the family; multicultural Islamic religious education materials provided by parents in their families; methods used by parents in carrying out multicultural Islamic religious education in the family; and supporting and inhibiting factors of multicultural Islamic religious education in the family. This study used descriptive-qualitative method. Data collection techniques were interviews, observation, documentation, and triangulation. Data analysis was performed by data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The study concluded that the parents hope by multicultural Islamic religious education,  the children can become those who believe and fear to Allah while respecting and not condemning the beliefs and faith of others; multicultural Islamic religious education materials provided by parents are instilling true monotheism and faith in children, teaching them to carry out worship, teaching the Koran, educating them with various noble manners and morals, prohibiting children from various actions that are forbidden, familiarizing them with shar'i clothes,  introducing the diversity of cultures, religions, and traditions around them, teaching universal values such as justice, equality, and respect for others, providing real-life examples of living inclusively and respectfully, encouraging open communication, teaching tolerance and intercultural understanding, teaching respect for human rights, and educating in positive values; the methods of Islamic religious education are: giving good exemplary, making the family a place where good social relations are created, accustoming them gradually to independence and taking responsibility and guide them when they are wrong with gentleness, etc; and supporting factors for the proper implementation of multicultural Islamic religious education in the family are child psychological potency, family support, educator and environment. The inhibiting factors for multicultural Islamic religious education for children are: limited time, busy parents, parental knowledge and attitudes, surrounding environment, and mass media.
