Plagiarism Policy
Originality and Plagiarism Policy
Borneo Journal of Language and Education (BENJOLE), as a reputable international journal, is committed to ensuring that all authors adhere to international standards of academic integrity and scholarship, particularly regarding plagiarism.
Plagiarism occurs when an author uses ideas, words, or information from another source without proper acknowledgment. Even if it occurs unintentionally, plagiarism remains a serious academic violation and is unacceptable in international scholarly publications.
When an author obtains specific information—such as names, dates, places, statistical data, or other detailed facts—from a source, a citation is required. This requirement is waived only in cases of general knowledge, where the information is widely available in multiple sources or universally known (e.g., Indonesia is the largest Muslim-majority country in the world).
If an author takes an idea from another work, proper citation is mandatory, even if the author develops the idea further. This applies to ideas about interpreting data, selecting methodologies, drawing conclusions, or broader developments in a field. When building upon someone else’s idea, authors must first cite the original source before presenting their own expanded analysis or interpretation.
Authors must ensure that they submit only entirely original work. If content or words from other sources are used, they must be appropriately cited or quoted. Influential publications that shape the work reported in the manuscript must also be acknowledged. Plagiarism can take many forms, from claiming another’s paper as one’s own, to copying or paraphrasing substantial portions of another’s work without attribution, to presenting results from other researchers as one’s own. All forms of plagiarism constitute unethical publishing behavior and are strictly prohibited.
Borneo Journal of Language and Education (BENJOLE) upholds academic integrity rigorously. Editors reserve the right to withdraw acceptance for any manuscript found in violation of these standards.
BENJOLE uses Turnitin or equivalent similarity-checking software to screen manuscripts before acceptance decisions are made, including during desk evaluation.
