Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy

1. General Policy

The Borneo Journal of Language and Education (BENJOLE) is committed to preserving its published scholarly content and maintaining long-term access to articles and journal issues.

The journal recognizes that digital preservation is essential to the continuity of scholarly communication, the integrity of the academic record, and the continued availability of published research.

BENJOLE maintains an electronic preservation arrangement through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) to support the long-term preservation of content published on its Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.

This policy describes the journal's approach to digital preservation, access to archived content, author self-archiving, and the management of published materials.

2. Digital Preservation through PKP Preservation Network

BENJOLE uses the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), to support the digital preservation of its journal content.

The PKP PN is designed to preserve content published through participating OJS journals and support long-term access when content is no longer available through the journal's primary website.

Through this preservation arrangement, BENJOLE seeks to reduce the risk of permanent content loss and support the continued availability of its published scholarly record.

3. Scope of Preservation

This policy applies to scholarly content published by BENJOLE through its official journal platform, including:

• Published research articles.
• Articles contained in published journal issues.
• Bibliographic and publication metadata associated with journal content.
• Other published materials maintained as part of the journal's scholarly record, where supported by the journal's preservation arrangements.

The journal seeks to maintain the integrity of published content and its associated bibliographic information to facilitate identification, citation, and continued scholarly use.

4. Long-Term Accessibility

BENJOLE aims to maintain public access to its published articles through its official website and online archives.

The journal's digital preservation arrangements are intended to support the availability of published content in circumstances where the primary website becomes temporarily or permanently unavailable, subject to the capabilities and conditions of the preservation service.

The journal seeks to ensure that archived materials remain identifiable and that bibliographic information supports the reliable citation of published work.

Preservation and continued access are important components of BENJOLE's commitment to open access and responsible scholarly publishing.

5. Integrity and Authenticity of Published Content

BENJOLE seeks to preserve the integrity and authenticity of its published scholarly record.

Published articles should remain identifiable as the versions of record issued by the journal. Any necessary corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions will be handled in accordance with the journal's Correction and Retraction Policy.

Where an article's publication status changes, the journal aims to maintain appropriate links or notices so that readers can identify the relevant editorial action.

Digital preservation does not prevent the journal from taking necessary editorial action to correct the scholarly record when justified by evidence or ethical requirements.

6. Author Self-Archiving

BENJOLE supports the dissemination of scholarly work through appropriate repositories and academic platforms, subject to its copyright and licensing terms.

Authors may share and deposit their published articles in institutional repositories, subject repositories, personal websites, and other appropriate platforms in accordance with the journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy and the applicable Creative Commons license.

Authors are encouraged to acknowledge BENJOLE as the original place of publication and provide the official article URL or DOI, where available.

Authors must respect third-party copyright, confidentiality obligations, and any applicable restrictions on materials included in their articles.

7. Open Access and Archived Content

BENJOLE provides open access to its published articles in accordance with its Open Access Policy.

The journal's digital preservation arrangements support its objective of maintaining access to scholarly content over time. Readers may access published articles through the official website and journal archives without a subscription or payment for access.

The rights and conditions governing the reuse of archived articles remain subject to the applicable copyright and licensing terms.

8. Website Disruption or Discontinuation

BENJOLE recognizes the importance of preserving access to its published content in the event of technical disruption, platform migration, or discontinuation of journal operations.

The journal's participation in the PKP Preservation Network provides a digital preservation mechanism intended to support continued access to preserved content, subject to the service's operational conditions.

In the event of website disruption or discontinuation, the journal and its publisher will seek to maintain or restore access to published materials through available preservation and archival arrangements.

The availability of preserved content through an external service depends on the capabilities and conditions of that service. BENJOLE therefore does not guarantee that every item will be immediately accessible through an alternative platform under all circumstances.

9. Responsibilities of the Journal and Publisher

The BENJOLE editorial team and publisher are responsible for supporting the journal's digital preservation arrangements and maintaining the integrity of its published content.

Their responsibilities include:

• Maintaining the journal's official online publication platform and archives.
• Supporting the journal's participation in the PKP Preservation Network.
• Maintaining appropriate bibliographic and publication metadata.
• Managing corrections, retractions, and other changes to published articles transparently.
• Reviewing preservation arrangements when necessary to support the long-term accessibility of the scholarly record.

Any additional backup, storage, or preservation services should be documented accurately when implemented.

10. Policy Review and Updates

BENJOLE may review and update this policy when necessary to reflect changes in digital preservation practices, publishing infrastructure, or the journal's preservation arrangements.

Any substantive changes to the journal's preservation strategy will be communicated through its official website.

The journal remains committed to improving the preservation, accessibility, and integrity of its published scholarly content.
