Ethical Clearance Requirements Starting from Volume 7, Issue 1

2026-08-25

Starting from Volume 7, Issue 1, manuscripts reporting research involving human participants, identifiable personal data, or sensitive information must have obtained ethical clearance from an authorized institutional ethics committee or institutional review board before data collection commenced.

Authors must include an ethical clearance statement in the manuscript specifying:

  1. The name of the approving institution or ethics committee

  2. The ethical clearance or protocol number

  3. The date of approval

  4. A statement confirming that informed consent was obtained, where applicable

For research involving participants under the age of 18, authors must confirm that consent was obtained from their parents or legal guardians and that participant assent was secured where appropriate.

A copy of the ethical clearance document must be uploaded as a confidential supplementary file during the manuscript submission process. If a study is officially exempt from ethical review, the authors must provide an exemption or waiver issued by the relevant institution or ethics committee.

Manuscripts that do not involve human participants, identifiable personal data, or sensitive information—including literature reviews, conceptual papers, and analyses of publicly available documents—are not normally required to provide ethical clearance. However, authors must clearly state in the manuscript why ethical clearance was not applicable.

The editorial team reserves the right to request additional documentation and to reject manuscripts that do not comply with the applicable ethical requirements.

This policy is implemented to ensure that research published in the Borneo Journal of Language and Education complies with nationally and internationally recognized standards of research integrity, participant protection, privacy, and responsible publication.

Prospective authors are kindly requested to prepare all required documentation before submitting their manuscripts.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to maintaining high ethical standards in research and publication.

Kind regards,

Editorial Team
